Actually you are right Billy but my point is the verse does not say what Victorydub dub said it did.
Add you point and you see he is doubly wrong.

There are three adjectives given for these young men (four if you include young) 1 they are strong, 2 the word abided in them, 3 they have over come the the wicked one.
To take the second adjective and say that is how they over came the wicked one violates what the verse actually says.
If you can't see that then I can clearly understand how you believe what you do. You simply can't read.
Did they ever teach sentence diagramming in your school? If they did diagram this sentence and then tell me how it is a teaching on over coming the wicked one.![]()
Ok first of all Ed let me give a little background on the book of 1 John. As you know the book was addressing gnostic teachings that were creeping in the church. . Chapters two and three are addressing the Gnostic view that one can sin in the body, but the condition of the soul, or spirit rather stays the same. So one can walk in sin and still remain in Christ. I do not have a problem with Troy using verse 14 as his foundational scripture because what he is saying is true. I think you are just being nick picky for no reason
The verse simply does not say what is he is claiming it said. Can't you see that? You can't change scripture to fit what you believe you must believe what scripture says.

So brother are you saying Gods word does not over come Satan? Or is it just the particular scripture he used for that Biblical fact?Justaned wrote:Rocky wrote:Wow Ed that was a bit condescending poopy pantsJustaned wrote: Rocky This verse does not speak on how to over come the wicked one it simply says you have overcome the wicked one.

The verse was listing 3 correction 4 adjectives of the men. It was not making a theological statement on how to overcome the wick one. That is all I'm saying no more no less. He is prooftexting a verse by ripping it from context to support his theology. That is exactly what Satan did when he tried to tempt Jesus, is it not?

FRANKLY my old friend i was trying to have your back to support you
folks continually affirm that they do not think you know anything of this or of that teaching.....or know anything else at all for that matter.
REVED
my trained eyes say....they really DO know that you know what they know.and they know it!!!!!!you just do not accept their EXEGESIS
of certain texts.
if you question their EXEGESIS of the texts they cry" foul "!!!!!!!!!!!!! and then proceed to
"attack the attacker!!!"

Well first of all what he is teaching in the video is 100% correct, so to say it is his theology is not right. What he is teaching is very biblical. 2nd he used 1 John 2:14 as a foundational verse as an introductory to his message. In essence Troy is teaching that we have overcome the Evil one then he lays out that the Word that abides in us as Christian is what has given us this victory. So this teaching is not unbiblical, so I am failing to see the problem here. Even Paul in the bible used scripture from the Old testament that maybe was not directly addressing what he is teaching but use it as a foundational text,(see romans 10:6-7 and Deut 30:11-14 for an example of this)because it mentions the thought and teaching that he is trying to convey even indirectly....

The problem is he contribute an idea (beit a good idea) to a verse and that verse didn't contain that idea.Rocky wrote:Justaned wrote:I'm not saying that at all I simply saying the verse does not say what Victorydub said it did.Rocky wrote:So brother are you saying Gods word does not over come Satan? That is poor exposition of the Word of God.
That is what I called him on. Go back and read my original comment.
The problem is preachers often do this and people accept it without question. That is how false teaching is introduced into the teaching. Get people use to the preachers implication on a verse without question then introduce a falsehood and it will fly right over their heads.
Second victorydub said we over come by having the word in us. While the Word is important just having the word in us will not overcome the wicked one. The pharisees had the word in them, Jesus attested to that.
So his "foundational" idea was in error.
Now is it true to realize and sustain the victory over the wicked one that Jesus gave us we need the word in us? YES!
But that is not what Victorydub was saying, it may have been what he meant I don't know nor do you because that isn't what he said.
I'm not faulting the theology that the word is important, of that the word is powerful, or that the word gives us strength to resist the wiles of Satan. I deny none of that.
What I deny is the fact this verse says that, but Victorydub said it did.
