You MUST keep the NT commandments to eat of the tree of life!
Many people sometime make the mistake of thinking there is ONLY one commandment for NT Christians to keep in order to go to Heaven. BUT in fact there are many!
Jesus mentioned more than one command here, so there are the very least two:
Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
John said the way we know Christians is by the keeping of His commandments: 1 John 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
Of course there are many commands in the NT. Dake said: "There are 1,050 commands in the New Testament for Christians to obey."
So there are many commands in the NT. In fact the book of Revelation tells us that commandment keeping (of the NT) is a requirement for accessing the tree of Life.
Revelation 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

The fault in Bible complications is not with God or the Bible, but with men who refuse to believe what God says and think we have to interpret what He says in order to get the meaning. Dake Bible -Mark 11:17 note

Re: You MUST keep the NT commandments to eat of the tree of life!
We risk getting pharisaical here. First we all sin scripture tells us that. Yes I know there are those that claim to live sinless lives but they lie and just by saying that is to commit the sin of pride. That said no Christian should be found living in sin. To err is human but to live in sin is evidence of the need for salvation.
How many of us can say in truth we keep the first and greatest commandment much less the second and as Bibleman pointed out all the rest. Sure we love God but is it really with ALL our Heart, Soul, and Mind. Notice the keyword ALL!
What we must do is totally and completely depend on the work of the cross and on Jesus for our salvation. How we live should reflect how much we totally depend on Jesus, it is not of works so any could brag but rather by faith.
What is the basis for our salvation? The cross and Jesus blood poured out for the remission of sin or our ability to live a sinless life keeping all commandment constantly?
The Pharisees tried to but people into bondage when God wanted them steeped in faith, we have to be careful we do not do the same thing demanding people must live a sinless life this side of heaven. That is not to say a sinful life is okay or constant sin is not problematic.

You have provided the easiest way by which to tell if a sect is of God, or not.

Still A person MUST keep the commandments of Jesus in order to eat of the Tree of Life!
Revelation 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
