Question about 1 John 3:3 note
Greetings, my question concerns note q which pertains to 1 John 3:3. The note references 20 proofs purity is now possible.
Please explain how item 18 in that list is a 'proof'.
Thank you.
EDIT: Item 18 reads thusly: "He that committeth sin is of the devil. (1Jn 3:8-10; Jn 8:44)"

Re: Question about 1 John 3:3 note
REVEREND Dake believed in what is called by some as sinless perfectionism.or entire sanctification.
he taught believers were not progressively sanctified but immediately 100%%% at salvation totally entirely sanctified.
if such a one sinned one need to be born again...again all over.
this SP was a teaching of John Wesley that was into the holiness movement and into Pentecost.

Re: Question about 1 John 3:3 note
Thank you for the reply. Yet it seems to make little sense to me. Am I to think then that item 18 is not a direct proof in that it merely implies that purity is possible? It seems that since the condition of sinning is possible it then stands to reason that being purified is also possible, Item 18 therefore is an indirect proof.

Re: Question about 1 John 3:3 note
I never noticed anywhere that Dake taught perfection except for going on to perfection or growing into perfection as is commanded be perfect
He did teach sinlessness as long as one is in Christ. Perfection on the other hand is a big difference and has many layers to it. We are commanded to be perfect or in some uses translated mature. Perfection is something one grows into. To inherit eternal life sinlessness is mandatory. Every person that is sinless is not necessarily perfect by any means - some more so than others.
One in sin is not in Christ as the one in sin is serving a different master and not God. If we do not have the Spirit of Christ we are none of His. If we serve sin then sin is our master and we do not have internal life in us.

Think about it like this...
If "he that committeth sin is of the devil" (and they are) then since those who are of God are NOT of the devil then of course they must be pure.
But also keep in mind the Dake Bible is a book of lists! And sometimes the "headings" of those list are not absolutely "specific as specific can be" to the points of the list give.
God bless
