1 Timothy 5:18
Hi everyone,
A quick question: Is 1 Timothy 5:18 in red in your Bible?
1 Timothy 5:18 For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.

I have a Thomas Nelson I am looking at and in it, it is in red as above.
Strange, I have not seen that before.

I'm at this moment looking up my Scofield Study Bible and its not in red there either, nor is it in red in the NIV, the RSV, the Moffatt, or the Thompson Chain Reference or the Macarthur study Bible, all of which I own.bibleman wrote:Thanks Ironman.Ironman wrote:No, not in any of mine?bibleman wrote:Hi everyone,

Re: 1 Timothy 5:18
In the copies where it is in red, it's because it's considered a quotation from Jesus' statement in Luke 10.7 so the words of Christ are shown in red. I see it's red in the ESV, HCSB, NLT, etc.

You know I thought the same thing, yet I cannot find one scripture where Jesus said "The labourer is worthy of his reward?" Lets know if you find or know of any!titus213 wrote:In the copies where it is in red, it's because it's considered a quotation from Jesus' statement in Luke 10.7 so the words of Christ are shown in red. Re: 1 Timothy 5:18
Maybe not in English, but in Greek the wording is virtually identical. Check the NASB which is the most literal in general, and which correctly translates both Luke and 1 Timothy exactly the same: "The laborer is worthy of his wages".
It is interesting because if Paul is quoting a statement of Jesus he is already regarding it as Scripture.

Re: 1 Timothy 5:18
Interestingly all the Bibles I use have citations or footnoted on 1 Tim 5:18 back to Luke 10:7 except the KJV.
Thomson Marginal notes also makes the connection. As does my Dake.

Luke 10:7, it is written;bibleman wrote:Hi everyone,

1 Timothy 5:18 For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.
Luke 10:7, And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. "for the labourer is worthy of his hire." IN RED!
And in Matt. 10:10;
Matt. 10:10, Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat. "for the workman is worthy of his meat." IN RED also!
Paul might be referring to what Jesus said in these Scriptures?
Galatians 4: 16, Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
