Something we all need to think about.

Post by Justaned »

Galatians 5:14-21 (NLT)
14 For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
15 But if you are always biting and devouring one another, watch out! Beware of destroying one another.
16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.
17 The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.
18 But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses.
19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures,
20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division,
21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:14-21 (AMP)
14 For the whole Law [concerning human relationships] is complied with in the one precept, You shall love your neighbor as [you do] yourself.
15 But if you bite and devour one another [in partisan strife], be careful that you [and your whole fellowship] are not consumed by one another.
16 But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God).
17 For the desires of the flesh are opposed to the [Holy] Spirit, and the [desires of the] Spirit are opposed to the flesh (godless human nature); for these are antagonistic to each other [continually withstanding and in conflict with each other], so that you are not free but are prevented from doing what you desire to do.
18 But if you are guided (led) by the [Holy] Spirit, you are not subject to the Law.
19 Now the doings (practices) of the flesh are clear (obvious): they are immorality, impurity, indecency,
20 Idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger (ill temper), selfishness, divisions (dissensions), party spirit (factions, sects with peculiar opinions, heresies),
21 Envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you beforehand, just as I did previously, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Think about it before you respond to a post any post on this forum. It seems that most of us including myself forget this from time to time.

Here's offense, there's offense, everywhere's there's fences...

I agree, Ed. Now, I tend to very strongly disagree with the vast majority of what I understand you to be teaching on here...but that does not give me the right, as a Christian, to treat you as badly as I have in the past. And I have treated you very wrongly in the past.

But I see on this message board, so many ppl, so many of us, getting offended at this person, that person and every other person...because we think they said this, or we feel they said that.

The common mentality on here the last few days as been, "How dare he say that!!" Then we bark and bite like little whiny dogs, claiming to be MEN of Godly Stature, all the while just becoming as common fruit flies, buzzing around making the fruit go more rotten.

We are pretty much, most of us, at least, wrong in how we deal with each other, and these supposed greivances. Afterall, doesn't the Bible tell us if we have a problem with a brother, to try to deal with it in private, THEN if that does not work, take a different approach (which still should not be ATTACK!! ATTACK!! AAAATTTTAAAAACCCCKKKKK!!!!!!)?

Ed, I for one, hope that this will bring about healing on this board of all of these offenses and anger with attacks. Ed, I apologize for how I have treated you in the past. Please, forgive me...

Chris

Great reply cpbeller, I would love to have your humility here. I am sorry as well. I have a very weird sense of humor, Its dry and cynical, and on forums it is hard to tell when someone is kidding because you cant see body language and facial expression. So lets just continue debating and discussion without insults I am guilty of this as well.

Sorry if I don't join in the group hug at the moment ...

Ed, I have serious problems when you ignore Scripture and then teach the opposite of it, often in direct contradiction to what the Scripture says. When I confront you or anyone else on that issue then it has nothing to do with a lack of the fruit of the Spirit. Now, if you truly respect the authority of Scripture, and not at such convenient times as when it is needed to chastize the board, then go back and apologize for your statements concerning authority, faith, and some of the other subjects where you literally ignored what God stated in His Word for your own belief system. Go back also where you denied MacArthur being a Calvinist and a cessationist if you really want to see us all get along and sing "cumbayah" together.

Having said that, I have no lack of love for you Ed and I have told you and others I love you more than once, but I cannot apologize for confronting you on some of these issues. Besides, for the ost part I don't even take this stuff personal. When someone decides to launch an all-out attack on me I simply ignore them. The reason I have continued to discuss with you Ed is because I happen to like the heck out of you. You really are fun to debate with even if I do feel like choking you sometimes.

Chris
Thank you and I to regret some of things I have said to you. And I have and do again apologize for them.
My prayer for this forum is that we all come to realize none of us have all the answers, all of need to be patient and to receive patience for each other. We are setting examples that is considered Christian behavior by some let our examples glorify God and not bring shame to the name of Christianity

I have the same serious concerns about you. In my opinion you rip scripture from context and use it to suit your purpose.

Now of the subject of MacArthur since he is a baptist preacher it would be stupid of me to deny he was a Calvinist and I don't think I did that. I think I said he was not a 5 point Calvinist but rather a four pointer. If I said or implied he wasn't a Calvinist I either misspoke or was misunderstood.

As far as he being a cessationist again I don't think I denied he believed the gifts of the spirit, prophecy, knowledge and speaking tongue as listed in 1 Cor 13:8 has ceased. About 20 years ago I wrote him on the subject and we exchanged Emails. They ended when we agreed to disagree. So I can't imagine I denied that. However to the best of my knowledge he lead me to believe he still believed in healing, miracles, gift of faith, wisdom and spiritual discernment. Obviously if the gift of tongues ceased so would interpretation of tongues. I believe the definition of Cessationalism is the belief that the gifts of the spirit listed in 1 Cor 13:8 did indeed cease with the death of the last Apostle.

Now on the MacArthur and his book Stange Fire and the conference. I have been listening to the recordings and I'm very concerned. When I finish the book and listening to the recording my intent is to write him. My objection is that in the past MacArthur always differentiated between Pentecostalism and the abuses committed by some in the name of Pentecostalism. From the recordings that differentiation is not being made. In other words they are clumping the abuses of some under the title of Pentecostalism. I will listen to the rest of the recordings as I get time and eventually read the book to see if this bears out.

That said while I totally disagree with his apparent position on Pentecostalism I still consider him a very brilliant Biblical scholar and with the exception of his position on gifts of the spirit and Calvinistic teaching an excellent source for expository teaching on scripture.

Ed, we definitely have some concerns about each other, don't we

But believe it or not, I really do enjoy our spats with each other. I am not sure if I would spend as much time on this forum if it weren't for you. As much as I strongly and vehemntly disagree with you, you definitely keep it interesting and fun. Sometimes, like Rocky I want to reach through the screen and choke you (in jest of course) but I hope you never leave this forum.

While I can honestly say I never wanted to cause you any bodily harm I have had to use real restraint not to tell you what I thought about your theology or your personal conduct on this forum.
On many occasion I have had to erase what I wrote upon praying over it and rereading it, deciding it to be non productive or too inflammatory.

The really funny thing is I believe I can see myself in you about 21 years ago when I was involved in what you are now involved in. I had been involved with WOF for about 10 years at that time, and because WOF was still so small I was involved with most of the movers and shakers of the movement at that time. I knew them personally and broke bread with many of them. More than one tried to recruit me to work for them. I was taught in their schools and I later I taught and course developed in their schools. I was ordained by them. If someone came to me 21 years ago and told me what I tell you today, my defense of my theology would be the similar to what yours is today. Thankfully God ...
