many say this is the modern invention of Billy Sunday.

Re: the sinners prayer????
When I first began doing street evangelism in the 80s I always felt that after I shared the gospel and could get them to pray the "sinner's prayer" with me then that "sealed the deal." We often finished our evangelism and counted our success by how many people we were able to manipulate .... er..... I mean.... get to pray with us
Yep, we would brag in church about how many people would "led to the Lord". One day I began to face the reality. Most of these people we led through a prayer had no interest in coming to church or changing their lifestyles. It took me a while to see that this just ain't working.
I still pray the "sinner's prayer" with those who I find are sincere and want to have a true relationship with Christ but I let them know that just praying this prayer does not automatically save them. There has to be a HEART FAITH along with the CONFESSION (Rom. 10:9, 10, 13). The fruit of their salvation will be seen in their participation in the discipleship process and their changed lives.

Romans 10"9, That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10, For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11, For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12, For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13, For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Repent and get out of the sin business and most importantly believe in HIM and in HIM who sent HIM! That's what I tell my extended family and friends when they ask what can we do to be saved.
Galatians 4: 16, Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?

These verses made such a difference for me years ago when I first really understood conversion. Confession is one thing, but believing from the heart is the item that makes one change bound for life. Then there is the endure, stand, be, do, action items.Ironman wrote:![]()

I struggle understanding those that say they are saved and do not represent much of a converted life in their walk. I was converted over thirty years ago and to me I walk good in life, yet have thoughts that bring doubt to me at times. I believe they stem from some sort of fear or insecurity, yet I have never been able to understand why I have them or truly understand what they are. It may also have to do with growing older and seeing the pages of my life pass by. The older I get the more I realize the days grow closer and the more I analyze my life.
