From what I've heard of Swaggart's message over the past few years (I can only take so much of him and his half-sobbing) it does seem like a false emphasis on grace. Of course, given his own history and his son's marriage disaster, it makes sense he would play the forgiveness card in a big way. But what bugs me the most is that he claims none of the apostles until Paul understood the **real** message. And of course, now Swaggart does too.

To be honest, I think he is fishing for members in his "television church" and wants them to tithe to him. He has a big operation with plenty of family involved, so he has to find ways to keep the dynasty going.

Billy, there's a church in my neck of the woods that has hired a graduate from Swaggart's school, and also has one of their young men going to school down there. Since the arrival of the graduate, this church now publicly takes shots at all the other churches in the area, claiming no one preaches or even understands the "message of the Cross" except for them. The odd thing is, there are Sunday services where they will dispense with any message from the Word because the Spirit 'told' the pastor to just let people laugh and dance.

The critical side of me wonders how long it will be before they are expected to start sending their money to the mother church.

Some years ago I wrote an article on my web page refuting Brother Swaggart's cross message in light of the resurrection of Christ. He actually invited me to come to his television show to debate him and his leaders. I was ready to go but many of my friends talked me out of it believing that it would be a trap where I would be ganged up on by the Swaggart team so I relented.

Needless to say, I did later see a message on his web page refuting my article though I never listened to it. I took it as a compliment that an unknown person such as myself can catch the attention of a famous evangelist with just one article.
