What would be classified or qualify as an appearance of evil?

Good question, sorry this may be a little long. I guess we would have to look at the scripture. This is a scripture taking out of context a lot. It has been forcefully used to chide people on many things, from going to movie theaters, to not listening to secular music, to not drinking from a bottle—no matter what's in it—to not spitting on the sidewalk, ridding a motorcycle to church. A well-meaning preacher once told me that women wearing pants "appeared" evil to some Christians because they "do not believe in women wearing them," and so a Christian women should not wear pants at all to avoid "the very appearance of evil. Have even heard some say this applies to witnessing to a sinner, that do not hang around sinners because that gives an appearance of evil. Or Donny Swaggart used it for his argument against tattoos and piercings. But when it comes to clothes and physical appearance here is what I tell young people, a Christian should now wear stuff with vulgar language, provocative sexual clothing, cultic symbols(pentagrams and such) and the rule applies to tattoos as well. I also believe they are inappropriate piercings. Such as genital and nipple piercings. But I believe the scripture is not so much about the physical appearance of someone, I can be applicable to that, but more about Doing things that are actually defined as evil in the bible. Even the appearance of it. So know what is called evil in the bible and don't do that.

Proverbs 7:10 (KJV)
10 And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.

Certainly we can agree that clothing and appearance can identify us as participating in something even if we are not? The above lady could be identified at a distance as a harlot by what she wore. Even if a lady was not a harlot but dressed as one - wouldn't she be identifying herself with them? Wouldn't this verse apply with no damage of context of any kind?

Even though people can go overboard with any Scripture to push their pet legalism... certainly the principle applies to outward appearance. I do not agree with this man's assessment on many areas. I listened to other videos and he is accepting to the idea of one listening to metal music etc. The list of such groups as Megadeath and others is appalling to me. These groups plaster their songs with evil and the glamorizing of it and feed the depression of many. There is a problem when one does not sever his/her ties with things that feed the flesh and rob them of spiritual life. If I pull up to a red light and have MegaDeath blaring on my radio - isn't that putting my approval on such unholy trash as being acceptable?

All kidding aside I totally agree with you Reuben on this and your analysis of the appearance of evil. I also agree with your dislike of the music by Megadeath. To me to use this example in trying to make this case was like slitting one ones wrist an example of making a case of false attempts of suicide. Your statement
There is a problem when one does not sever his/her ties with things that feed the flesh and rob them of spiritual life.
is excellent!!
