Billy I never once suggested Christians can't sin, I said they will not willfully and deliberately sin. If they do they must first walk away from the faith. The must declare Jesus was never truly Lord of their life or they are calling Jesus lax for allowing them to walk away. No master would allow his bond servant to simply walk away once he has been bought and paid for them.
This is the crux of my argument, if Jesus is truly your Lord then you won't walk away. However I believe many think they have made Jesus Lord of their lives but when temptation comes they had no problem walking away as if he was never Lord. And he wasn't as proven by their ability to walk away. If Jesus is really Lord of someone that person can not turn Jesus on and off. They have committed to follow Jesus, their will in no longer theirs, their rights are no longer theirs. The do the bidding of the master not the just when they want to, not just when it convenient but if Jesus is really Lord they do His bidding always. If they don't then Jesus was never Lord. That is what the Christian family has got to realize.
Ed you said "they are calling Jesus lax for allowing them to walk away No master would allow his bond servant to simply walk away once he has been bought and paid for them." So God controls the believer and keeps them from sinning and walking away from him?

Rocky
Why did Jesus go to the cross? Besides obedience to the Father Jesus also displayed His love for us. If we don't truly treasure that love that Jesus pours out on us then we are numb. Don't mistake me saying that Jesus stands there with a club and threatens to hurt us. No Jesus stands there with out stretched arms bearing the nail marks and showers us with His love to keep us His bond servants.
So God controls the believer and keeps them from sinning and walking away from him?

You used the word control. I use the word love, teach, guide, exhort, edify, encourage.

Ok By English vernacular, Do you believe God controls: (: to direct the behavior of (a person or animal) : to cause (a person or animal) to do what you want, determine the behavior or supervise the running of. The power to influence or direct people's behavior or the course of events,) the believer and keeps them from sinning and walking away from him

The Holy Spirit is given us to guide us, to teach us, to be a faithful friend and companion. I would say for the Holy Spirit to simply sit by and allow us to walk away from God, Jesus and Himself would make the Holy Spirit little more than a lip service would you not?
Think of it this way you have a friend that you see is preparing to make the worst possible decision of his life would you not as a friend do everything in your power to convince him not to? Would you say you were controlling him? Or would you say you were using your influence as a friend to try to prevent him from doing something foolish?

Ed Why not just directly answer my question? I know it can be a complicated soteriological Question because a direct answer will show if one leans towards Arminian or calvinism. Are you afraid of being accused of the latter? You seem to be taking the responsibility of an individual's role when it comes to remaining in the faith. Like salvation automatically will produced works without any responsibility to the Christian, Almost a lordship salvation theological perspective, which would be ok to admit this because than one would know where you are coming from. But, know I am completely opposed to Lordship salvation. I believe the bible to be more Arminian. I know you are into MacArthur in his soteriological teachings. But again that is ok because it makes it easier to discuss things with you, if you would only admit to this. Which would also explain a lot of your views. Your views in fact are confusing and impossible because you never precisely define what kind of commitment to Christ is necessary in order to become a Christian. How much surrender is required? How long is this surrender to last? How much fruit must this surrender produce. Then the believer spends the rest of his Christian life wondering if he truly made enough of a commitment to become a Christian.

I never used the word control you did. Now you want me to say whether I believe God does something I never mentioned or not. Does that make sense to you? You are trying to build a box that you will then try to box me in with and I won't be boxed.
I am an Arminian does that answer your question? I do not see God as a puppet master pulling our strings. But I do believe God's will is done.
If a person makes Jesus their Lord then I would expect as Lord Jesus would direct a persons life.

If you commit to being a bondservant and your lord tells you to go to this place then I would expect you would go to that place. If you don't are you his bondservant any longer? Is he your lord?

Well the same things takes place with us and Christ. If Jesus is really Lord of us then when He says go we go and when he says come we come. How else could someone be Lord of our life if that did not occur?

I don't know MacArthur's "soteriological" teaching well enough to say I'm into it, that is your accusation not my confession. I like to think I'm into Biblical soteriological teaching, now if MacArthur's teaching lines up with that then I guess you could say I'm into MacArthurs teaching. But what would be the point?

What I will say is most people do not understand their salvation. They can't they have little or no idea of the Old Testament sacrifice or it's meanings and festival days and of their meanings nor any knowledge of covenant making, especially the blood covenant. Some how they relate pain, suffering, torture and yes even wrestling into salvation and don't understand the sacrifice, blood and death is what is required.

That is just the thing salvation is about meeting a condition or sustaining that said condition for some period of time. Salvation is about forming a relationship with Christ and staying in that relationship for life. As I said people do not understand salvation they want it laid out by definite rules like you must attend church 50 weeks of the year for 20 years then you are a Christian you can then slack off and attend 40 weeks of the year until you reach the age of 70 from there on you are a Christian as long as you smile and nod your head when someone says Jesus within your hearing. That is not how salvation should be seen.

Salvation is like a mothers love, how do you describe it? Our responsibility in salvation is like a child's love for his mother, how do you describe that? After you get done, then detail out what happens if the Mother or child dies early.

Chapter and verse is the New Testament, Jesus spent three years teaching on relationship of the us the children of God to God the Father and you want me to pick a verse?????

The question, someone that is wondering about their salvation, is to ask themselves this simple question, "Who is in charge of my life." If they answer it is me then they aren't saved. If they answer it is Jesus but they live like the world then they are liars and aren't saved. But if they say it is Jesus and then live as if Jesus is in fact Lord of the their life you can be reasonably sure they are saved.

Hi Ed,

You said: "The question, someone that is wondering about their salvation, is to ask themselves this simple question, "Who is in charge of my life." If they answer it is me then they aren't saved. If they answer it is Jesus but they live like the world then they are liars and aren't saved. Well I would answer that quesiton like this.

Who is in charge of my life?

I am!

And I, by an act of my free will, voluntarily submit my decisions and all that I am in life, to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Saviour.

God bless

Think of it this way you have a friend that you see is preparing to make the worst possible decision of his life would you not as a friend do everything in your power to convince him not to? Would you say you were controlling him? Or would you say you were using your influence as a friend to try to prevent him from doing something foolish?
Ed Why not just directly answer my question? I know it can be a complicated soteriological Question because a direct answer will show if one leans towards Arminian or calvinism. Are you afraid of being accused of the latter? You seem to be taking the responsibility of an individual's role when it comes to remaining in the faith. Like salvation automatically will produced work without any responsibility to the Christian, Almost a lordship salvation theological perspective, which would be ok to admit this because than one would know were you are coming from. But, know I am completely opposed to Lordship salvation. I believe the bible to be more Arminian. I know you are into MacArthur in his soteriological teachings. But again that is ok because it makes it easier to discuss things with you if you would only admit to this. Which would also explain a lot of your views.

You say you cant be boxed in but you have put yourself there, You wont answer questions refuse to address any thing I ask or say. But I will say this, Your views in fact are confusing and impossible because you never precisely define what kind of commitment to Christ is necessary in order to become a Christian. How much surrender is required? How long is this surrender to last? How much fruit must this surrender produce? Then the believer spends the rest of his Christian life wondering if he truly made enough of a commitment to become a Christian. Why not define this accepting Jesus as lord, And what it means to you and show scripture please. where in he bible does it say you make me Lord you will be saved?

I submit that you haven't fully given Jesus charge over your life. The declaration that you are in charge shows you haven't totally laid down your life. You still want to be in control. What is in question are we capable of laying down our "all" so completely that even that is not longer viewed as our decision. When we insist we are in control but gave it to God we are saying in effect since we initiate it we still have control over it.
We must so trust God that our free will is never in question, it will always be there but it is no longer used and is unneeded, as Jesus is Lord of our lives.
