Re: Question: Men virgins???

Post by Spiritblade Disciple »

One page that I found says that the masculine form of the Hebrew "almah" is "elem" and is used of David in 1st Samuel 17:56 wherein the Old King James renders it as "stripling."

https://www.hebrew-streams.org/works/he ... ah714.html

But, it concedes that it isn't known whether or not the word "elem" is meant to denote virginity just as parthenos (Greek) does... Apparently in concession to the debate that an "almah" may not be a virgin and still be a young woman.

Chastity / virginity, should affect the heart, mind, and soul, not just certain body parts. The morality we espouse and the actions we choose give evidence of our heart’s condition.
Agreed!
But I am looking for a passage that would call men virgins like there are passages that call women virgins.
I read a Dake note today that sort of addressed this and was trying to prove it out.

Revelation 14:4 These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.
Dake says: a [were not defiled with women; for they are virgins] If this statement were taken literally, it would prove that they are all men. But if the next statement were taken literally, it would prove that they are all women -- virgins. Obviously, the idea is to picture their purity of character. They are saved men and women who have not polluted themselves with the idolatrous and immoral religious system of the great whore of Rev. 17. See Paul's similar comparison, 2Cor. 11:2."
Dake seems to be insinuating that ONLY women are virgins.
What is the "next statement" he cites?
Is it the second sentence of Rev 14:4?
What is the "next statement" he cites?
"for they are virgins."
Thanks, so "they" are men, who have not been defiled by women.
Seems rather obvious.
Men as well as women are virgins until they have sex.
Yeah in general I agree with you BUT Where in the Biblical record would we find men referred to as virgins, outside of Rev 14:4?

The fault in Bible complications is not with God or the Bible, but with men who refuse to believe what God says and think we have to interpret what He says in order to get the meaning. Dake Bible -Mark 11:17 note

Thanks, nice article on the word.

So it may very well be that Dake was right with his note...

And looking past his comment that the statement would not be literal (physical) virgins but purity of character...

Looking at the word of Dake ONLY: "it would prove that they are all women -- virgins."

His belief that (where the Bible is concerned) ONLY women are spoken of as virgins (physical that is) is an accurate statement.

To a lot of people it does not... just trying to determine if the word virgin (Biblically speaking) should ONLY refer to women.

Context would rule.
If virgins or virginity is being discussed, it applies to men or women.
If holy girls are being discussed, the virgin is a girl.

Weren't you a virgin boy once?

The importance of a "title" seems rather small.
The uninitiated in sexual activity are virgins, whether in the bible or not.
As posted earlier, it is used for men in Rev 14.

Yes Rev 14 is the Scripture I quoted above... But it is figurative of pure and chaste BELIEVERS not physical virgins.

How many women lose their virginity to women?
You are denying the obvious.
