Which is worse? I would suppose a pastor that causes you to take antidepressants!

But that still does not let me, you, or anyone else off the hook for not disciplining our MIND with the Word of God, and receiving the cure.

You see Ed ole boy... we are depressed when we BY CHOICE think on the wrong things. Dwelling on the thoughts of Satan depresses us.

We are happy when we BY CHOICE think on the RIGHT things. Dwelling on the thoughts of God frees us from depression and makes us happy.

So the outcome and the results are based on our agreement with God "OR" our agreement with the Devil.

That is just how the mind works!

God's word tells us that.
Philippians 4:8-9 (NASB)
8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.
9 The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

However I don't think it is the devil that gives us negative thoughts but rather our own flesh. Too many forget Paul's admonishment and dwell on things that are ungodly.

Well maybe some depression can be a chemical imbalance that needs to be healed, but also some times I think what is the difference in taking pills to feel better emotionally than going out and getting some alcohol is not both just self medicating? So I have mixed feelings about all of this..

The question is: Did the chemical imbalance produce the bad behavior OR

Did the bad behavior produce the chemical imbalance?

Biblical Counselors believe that the bad behavior produced the chemical imbalance.

Thus the REAL cure is to change the bad behavior that produce the chemical imbalance.

This is the heart of TRUE Biblical counseling.
