a person who hurts their own child :-| in a malignant way is of their father the devil.the devil hates God and His creation.steal, kill, destroy is the devil.

the shooting in CT.well theres a reason for everything.
the deranged killer in Colorado well theres a reason for everything.

there are THREE power sources in the Universe we inhabit.

There is the the POWER OF THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY.

There is the power of Lucifer the most powerful malignant evil alien entity and his subordinate entities.

Then there is the power of man .we his crown of creation created in the image and likeness of God.

Calvinism is still rubbish no matter how one tries to dress it,hide it in riddles or sugarcoat it.

Reverend Dake proves it to be hogslop.

Interesting discussion so far. Billy, you share my disdain for Calvinism.

Some things happen for no valid reason at all. Even God notes this in one of the most abused and misunderstood books in the Bible - the book of Job:
  • Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil. And he still maintains his integrity, though you incited me against him to ruin him without any reason.” (Job 2:3; NIV)
God Himself says that there was no legitimate or good reason for the attacks of Satan upon Job, contrary to the false teaching many of us receive from this book that says that God secretly manipulated Satan into testing Job for His secret divine purposes. There simply is no good reason for the rape and murder of innocent children, genocide of millions of people just for "ethnic cleansing" and all of the other horrors in our world.

Most of all, there is no divine secret reason behind any of it.

Now you are putting words into my mouth. No God did not want to kill this child and I never suggested God did.
Hi Ed,

So I guess we would be in agreement then, that it was NOT God's will for the parent to kill the child.

Well if that is the case then the question has not been answered - what is the reason?
And as I told you before we often times don't know God's reason. God doesn't have to explain Himself to us. God has clearly stated His ways are not man's ways. Our requirement is to trust God. God's promise is he will make all things work to our good. How does this all come together? Many times we don't know but that does not change our requirement to Trust in God.
Hi Ed,

Above you said: "And as I told you before we often times don't know God's reason."

So you are saying that God had a reason for killing the child but we just don't know it. Right?

My contention is that God had no reason since he was not involved in the killing of the child at all!

Would you agree?
Bibleman
First we agree God was not involved in the killing, God allowed it but God did not ordain it nor comit it. As for God's reasoning to allow it I don't know the answer.
I have to stand on Genesis 50:20 But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.

Ed, that last statement of yours is the main reason most people don't want anything to do with this God of ours......and hurt christians believing God was behind all the bad things that have befallen them.

macca
Macca
God didn't do it but he did allow it. We see this here with Joseph and again with Job. In both cases the men it happened too didn't get mad at God, instead they trusted in God and God lead them through it.

Hi Victoryword,

Good passage, I like it.

Have you read this one?

Ecclesiastes 9:11 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

This has nothing to do with Calvinism, it is the Bible.

Job had a most excellent reason for happening along with the story of Joseph, to show us men of of integrity that kept their trust in God would come through the fire of testing. Also in Joseph's case he was then in the perfect position to save the Children of Israel from starving.

I would not call this no reason.

"Everything happens for a reason!"

I have heard this in a number of life situations.
They come through a surgery and do NOT die - God spared me for a reason.
They have an automobile accident and total their car - This happened for a reason.
Their little baby dies - God took the little baby for a reason.

Question: What is the reason everything happens?
OK, here is at least two points I see.

1) The main reason for why things happen?

Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Things happen to people because of the actions that have been sown by themselves and sometimes others.

2) Then some things happen by chance.

Ecclesiastes 9:11 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
12 For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.

3) BUT in no stretch of the imagine do BAD things happen to us for the REASON so God can teach us something... get glory from it... use it for a greater purpose... or any number of other Bible-departing thoughts that come from the deceived mind of man.

HI BIbleman, I have read that one. It is a good passage explaining that some things just happen by chance. Of course, determinists, just as they reinterpret (twist) so many other passages wil use this one to claim that God is the one behind the things that happen to us by "chance".

I have found from past experience that debating Calvinists is a frustrating endeavor. +hammer

So then you would argue with God? He is the One who said that there was no good reason. That is the problem with those of you who hold to determinism: you tell God how He must operate even when He plainly says He doesn't operate the way that you claim that He does.
