why do some people call themselves 'divine' ?

This is what I found with Google Gemini: "A "divine" is a theologian or minister, particularly one who is eminent in religious knowledge. The term was frequently used in the 17th century to describe the clergy and scholars".

Not sure if that was the usage you were talking about. But, it was used that way, historically.

I believe this bunch follow Kenneth Copland's revelation that he got from Philippians. 2:5-6;

I learned a lot from Kenneth Copeland, a while back. He was kind enough to send me one of his New Testaments with his notes in it for my birthday, once.

That said, his position on the believers not having a God in them, but being gods is challenging to accept. I don't think he's the only one in the Word of Faith or similar groups that have taught similarly.

I just saw an headline where folks, today, are actually worshiping William Branham, for instance.

That said, let's take a look at another passage in the New Testament where it seems that humans are being called gods, under certain circumstances.

John 10:35 New King James Version
... He called them gods, to whom the word of God came...

What did Jesus mean when He said that "He called them gods, to whom the word of God came"? Did Jesus mean that God calls those to whom the word of God comes gods?
