No one was called a Jew in Genesis or Exodus? No Israelites were Jews before 2nd Kings 16:6. That's when the term was first utilized for anyone in the Bible. Hundreds of years (over 700 years) after the Exodus.

My grandpa James wasn't called or known as "grandpa" until his kids had kids.Spiritblade Disciple wrote: ↑Mon Nov 10, 2025 4:32 pmSpiritblade Disciple wrote: ↑Mon Nov 10, 2025 12:46 amJust trying to understand the meaning of the statement that He wasn't known to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, by His Name ("JEHOVAH"), even though Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are portrayed by Moses as having utilized that Name (rendered "LORD" in the KJV when it was utilized). When the Hebrew word underlying the English translation is the same, yes.
And, that's the issue.
Exodus 6:3 says the name "Jehovah" wasn't known to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Yet, the same Hebrew word rendered "Jehovah" in Exodus 6:3 is utilized by Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the stories about them and by them in Genesis.
In our family, "grandpa" and "James" mean the same thing.
Things change overtime.

Right. And, Cassius Clay wasn't known as Muhammad Ali until later in his life. His parents never called him that. And, it'd be weird to read a biography about him where his parents were calling him Muhammad Ali when he was a child.

Do you have a point to make in this thread ?Spiritblade Disciple wrote: ↑Tue Nov 11, 2025 10:41 amRight. And, Cassius Clay wasn't known as Muhammad Ali until later in his life. Still just considering the options as to why the Hebrew shows Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and others utilizing the Name before it was revealed in Exodus 6:3. At best, I have an hypothesis or two. But, nothing that's provable. Probably something a professional, dedicated scholar would need to take up.

Well I suppose any guess is as good as another.
How about this...The Israelites were using the word Jehovah in a way that was not used as the name of God ?
(A couple of OT mountains bore that name.)
Like finding out that "Iowa" was God's name ?
Iowa has been used for a long time to mean a state of the union, while to the original Iowa Indians it meant "Sleepy ones".
If we started calling sleepy folks "Iowans", wouldn't it correlate to the Israelis situation ?

There might be something that scholars that produced the KJV knew that I don't that explains why they didn't render the Hebrew word for "JEHOVAH" as "JEHOVAH" everywhere that word would seem to appear based on where Strong's says it's used. At least one preacher has said that folks should never utilize the original languages to correct the KJV. And, some scholars and others have alleged that the Hebrew was edited at various points in time (which, if true, might explain the appearance of Strong's Hebrew word 3068 where it shouldn't be found).
Not saying either position is correct. Just some things I've heard.
