Is it permissible to disagree with those you believe are wrong?

Post by bibleman »

Is it permissible to disagree with those you believe are wrong?

Galatians 2:11 Now when Peter had come to Antioch, I withstood him to his face, because he was to be blamed;

If so, have any suggestions on how to do it in Christian love?

If not, why not?

The fault in Bible complications is not with God or the Bible, but with men who refuse to believe what God says and think we have to interpret what He says in order to get the meaning. Dake Bible -Mark 11:17 note

It is permissible, if you love them.
Talk to them man to man, and if they don't see the light take it up a notch.
Of course there is a difference between your neighbors driveway and something in the church.
If the neighbor won't get rid of the trash get a few other neighbors to go with you and talk some more about the issue...but be prepared to offer a solution for the problem. ie. Offer to help with the clean up or hauling a load to the dump.
The problems in a church have their own solutions already outlined in scripture.

You as a man of God can rebuke those that may miss it.

Using a different example, the challenge might be a question of whom has light to qualify them to correct someone, or go to them man to man to show them the light. As an example you have a belief on water baptism that other Christians disagree with you about.

If you would confront someone man to man to tell them they have to be water baptized, they would say you are incorrect, however you would believe you are correct and believe you hold light where this is concerned. They disagree because they believe differently.

For you to correct them would be in error because it is a disagreement between you and not a correction required as it is your perception versus their perception. Basically you can reason with them, but having an opinion does not give one authority to correct them.

In the case with Paul and Peter, Peter was shown his error by the repeated vision. Problems in Church do have some of the solutions outlined in scripture and some are clear-cut, however some are open to understanding what they mean.

Our definitions of "Christian" differ.
If you would confront someone man to man to tell them they have to be water baptized, they would say you are incorrect, however you would believe you are correct and believe you hold light where this is concerned. They disagree because they believe differently.
That results in a stalemate, until God steps in with a final solution.
For you to correct them would be in error because it is a disagreement between you and not a correction required as it is your perception versus their perception. Basically you can reason with them, but having an opinion does not give one authority to correct them.
That is a two way street.

Thank God for supplying pastors for church bodies for just such occasions.
The bible tells us to be of the same mind in several places, so if one member of a congregation espouses a doctrine counter than the prevailing understandings, he will be asked to leave.

So all pastors for church bodies are correct in such occasions? If one member of your congregation grows to learn a doctrine that does not teach one must be water baptized as you do, they will be asked to leave since that disagrees with your congregation?

The bible does indicate we are to be of a mind of unity, yet it is obvious we have different perceptions. Does that mean we are not in unity - one mind?

Yep, way more than simple disagreements there. Even call a brother a heathen if he does not listen to the Church.

If they are of God...yes.
If one member of your congregation grows to learn a doctrine that does not teach one must be water baptized as you do, they will be asked to leave since that disagrees with your congregation?
Their lack of belief that water baptism is the means to killing the old man will leave the old man in control.
That results in sin, and the sin will be the reason they leave.

It means we are not in unity.
We have a different mind on things.
