Who were the disciples partners?

Post by bibleman »

Just discovered something.

In the Bible Jesus sends out his disciples two by two.

Does anyone know the paring of the disciples or in other words who each of their partners were?

I just discovered this today - but now you guys may already know this.

I'll have a stab for a few. Peter and John, Paul and Barnabas, Paul sent Timothy and Erastus together to Macedonia (Acts 19:22), John and James, Matthew and Thomas, Matthew also paired with Philip (Acts 1:13).

Galatians 4: 16, Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?

Good ideas and research... But not quite what I came up with.

Hold on a bit while see if anyone else takes a stab at it.

Do we have any evidence that Jesus paired the same two together each time? Or did Jesus pair them up according to the needs that he was sending them to?

I don't really know, but the Bible does give us an idea of who was paired with who on at least one occasion.

You know I never consider it before nor have I ever read anything about it.

Mark 6:7 And He called the twelve to Himself, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them power over unclean spirits.

Luke 10:1 After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go.

Ok the answer is found here:

Matthew 10:2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;
4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

Do you see it?

Yes.
Though it doesn't say exactly as you purpose, it doesn't sound unreasonable.
As nothing is written to counter your POV, I'll use that answer, if questioned on the matter later.
Gracias!

Many NT writings had the punciations in them. Seems that this was one of them.

At least since it is like you say - there is nothing to the contrary or in opposition.

Imagine Matthew the X-Tax collector being partnered up with Thomas who we call doubting Thomas.

I kinda' wonder why Jesus didn't break up the brother duos?
I guess Jesus didn't believe in "cross-training".
