In comparison to this verse we are looking at{First John 3:9} compare it to First John 2:1? "IF WE SIN"?

What's to explain?
As Jesus' parables about grape vines cannot bear figs and fig trees cannot bear grapes, it is clear that the progeny of Godly seed cannot bear devilish fruit.
The children of God cannot commit sin.

Wouldn't the purpose of the letter mean something? Who did John write this to and why did he write it? Does the genre of the language he used play a role. Taking a literal meaning without understanding the style and purpose can lead to serious error.

Over analysis can also lead to error.
Someone looking for a different evaluation of 1 John 3:9 is surely looking for a way to validate sin in their own life.
That would be the error.

Or do you think fig trees CAN bring forth grapes?

Okay, I'll bite... who was John writing to? why was John writing to them? was this simply an informative letter or was he addressing a particular theme? what style or genre did he use? (hint - he uses several) where does it use the technique of amplification? John used a style called "chiasmus" in which lines mirrored one another in inverse fashion, it is done for effect, where is that done and what is the purpose? (Hint if you only look at the mirrored line you are seeing the inverse of what the intent is, just like as one looks in a mirror you see a flipped image.) What are the two main topics that John addressed? (hint: he opens with "this is the message")

Now, I've given you enough information that a 4th grader can generally get the right answers, so I'll wait. but I' won't hold my breath
