First, if God doesn't hear sinners, how does anyone get saved? CONTEXTHill Top wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2019 10:46 pmAs "God heareth not sinners", (John 9:31), what is clear is that Cornelius had already "turned from" sin.
Were he already saved or cleansed, why did God expend so much effort getting Peter to visit him?
Cornelius was working from an understanding of the OT ways and means of salvation, and still needed the NT tenets in his life...for salvation.
The only reason Cornelius received the gift of the Holy Ghost before baptism was to impress upon the Jewish accompaniers of Peter that God had accepted the Gentiles into His kingdom too.
It was a one-of-a-kind event.
Second, God is not a respecter of persons is he, so what make you certain this was a one time event?

They hear the message, (faith cometh by hearing), they turn from sin, get baptized, and they receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.Grandfather wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2019 10:28 amFirst, if God doesn't hear sinners, how does anyone get saved? It was a one time event because it was never written of again? Really? Curious, so with that idea salvation to the gentiles, or anyone else, never happened again to anyone after the bible was written because salvation was never written of again? Come on now you got to come up with something better than that.

Re: Entire sanctification
You raise a great example. I was questioning why to limit it to ONE time. If it happened TWICE and was never mentioned again, what then? Why does to the cessation of an event being mention become the limiting factor?luchnia wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2019 5:23 amIt was a one time event because it was never written of again? Really? Why don't you think salvation was never written of again?luchnia wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2019 5:23 amIt was a one time event because it was never written of again? Really? Cornelius was the first of the Gentiles to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Scripture shows how amazed the visiting Jews were. (Acts 10:45-46)
As were the Jews back in Jerusalem. (Acts 11:2-3, 18)
If you feel receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost and the gift of tongues before baptism is at all common, show where it happened ever again.
