Eternally secure and thus cannot lose their salvation

Post by bibleman »

This is part of the Statement of Faith of a church in our area:
Those truly redeemed by Jesus, are eternally secure and thus cannot lose their salvation. Though they may fall, through neglect or temptation, into sin, and in so doing, impair their graces and comforts, interrupt the joy of their fellowship with God, bring reproach on the church, and incur temporal judgment and discipline from God the Father, they shall be renewed again unto repentance and can never finally fall away from the state of grace by the power of God.
It is unbelievable that people can believe such teachings and reconcile it with Bible doctrine.

Is it any wonder that today the so called church is cold, lukewarm and lives like the devil?

The fault in Bible complications is not with God or the Bible, but with men who refuse to believe what God says and think we have to interpret what He says in order to get the meaning. Dake Bible -Mark 11:17 note

Yes. Powerless churches full of talk and no Holy Spirit.

Over the years I have found the number that believe that way is much larger than I had ever imagined. The acronym should be OSSAS Once Saved, Secured, and Always Sinning to better fit those that believe they are secure in salvation while sinning their way to eternal life.

I have often heard the phrase, "We only fall out of fellowship when we sin, but we are still saved" and makes me want to hurl. BTW, most will say once you are saved you don't desire sin, but you will sin, yet that doesn't matter because you are sealed. I loathe that belief along with the sinning saint doctrine.

This is a contradiction to Heb 6:4-6..."For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame."
They only appeared to leave their faith, because, they never were..."enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,"

People seek out "churches" where they can continue sinning, without shame.
To their own destruction.

Thanks be to God there are true, spotless, unstained churches, out there too.
"Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled." (Matt 5:6)

So then by your understanding of Hebrews chapter six, you would say that Peter, Moses, Abraham, David, and many others were never saved, nor did they get saved because they tasted the good word of God and were enlightened? To say that Peter was not enlightened would pose a serious challenge, but yet we know he fell away big time, denied the very One that he believed in, and even called down curses upon himself.

None of your list sinned in the NT.
I can't remember a "sin" committed by Abraham, but Moses and David had the OT "atonements" to cover their sins.
As did Peter...for denying Christ three times.
After the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, however, we are able to join with Christ in killing the old man and burying him...then being raised with Christ to walk in newness of life, in the Spirit instead of in the flesh.
Thank God for the gifts of repentance from sin, baptism in water, and the gift of the Holy Ghost; so we can continue on in the light !

OSAS is of the devil.

King Saul, who was in God's favour and who had the Holy Spirit, lost that favour and was destroyed because of sin (1 Chron. 10:13-14). He committed suicide and must be lost, for no murderer has eternal live (1 Sam. 28:7-25; 31:1-6; 1 John 3:15; Gal. 5:19-21). To argue that Saul was never a saved man is to demonstrate a lack of Bible truth. "God gave Saul another heart . . . and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied (1 Sam. 10:9-13). If this was not an experience of the saved man then it was nothing at all. It is also recorded haw the Spirit of God LEFT HIM WHEN HE SINNED (1 Sam. 16:12-23). Saul went into spiritualism and God said He would cut off the man who did this (Lev. 19:31; 20:6; Deut. 18:11). He was a very humble and godley man to begine with, but he did notend in this way (1 Sam. 10:21-24).

GPFM Book.

Here in Virginia there is little to no power in the churches, especially when it comes to healing. If there is power, you don't hear of it being manifested in healing. Of course a topic for another thread.

When you say "churches", do you mean those who have forsaken sin and come to the light?
Or do you mean the false churches that accommodate sin?
