Thanks brother Leon..do you preach with the dake in hand or on a pulpit? (Tells us of your eyesight...lol)

Hi Brother Q,

Yes I do preach with a Dake. I have a gray Dake Bible that I just love and I have been using it for years now.

As to my eyesight. I am 55 years old and don't have the vision I had when I was 20 but I still do OK. I can read the Dake standard Bible OK but if it is too dark I have problems. So a little extra light clears things up.

That being said I use to wear glasses but God healed me when I was 25 years old and I haven't worn glasses since. However getting older I understand that my eyes are not as good as they use to be but ----- I am still believing God for good vision everyday.

I just received my Dake Bible, and Dake's biography. I read the first 3 chapters in the bio, it is really good. I am studying I Cor. using a Scofield Bible, and begun to use the Dake for this study as well. His notes are very insightful. I preached once on 2 Sam. 9, about David and Ziba. Dakes had many notes for this chapter that I have never found anywhere else. By the way, Dake Pub. shipped my order on Mon, and I received it on Weds, what efficient service!

I have all three, the standard, the large print, and the new 3 column

I use the large print mostly because of its size. not to big or hard to read.
The 3 column I find great when having perhaps one bible open and searching
in yet another for the referenes of the first. The 3 column is really to big
to use standing before a congregation I think.

We must not lose sight of the original Dake. The 3 column I find some
notes gone because of lack of room. They were simply omitted.

If I were to have one Dake, it would be the large print 4 column
which is basically unavailable now unless one wants to pay $999-$1322,
a bit ritsy price for me. If you're going to use it a lot, as many of us
do, the genuine leather cover is a good investment, as the imitation
wears out. I took my most used Dake and put some furniture reappoalstering
material about it as the cover wears out. In pricing bible's online you'll
get your answer when you see the $999-$1326 or so pricetag to a
Dake large print genuine leather edition.

I like the 3 column when I'm studying, especially using two Dakes
at one time. A Dake on the internet had a minimum price of
$100 which noone bought, as it was a standard size genuine leather.
It is most confusing shopping for Dake bibles online as they
omit the 3 or 4 columns, genuine leather, standard or large print.
You start out with an isbn for one and quickly you become confused
by missing information on the items being brought up on the web.

I gave up trying to get a genuine leather, 4 column, large print (oversize).
They're impossible to come by and perhaps in the greatest demand by
those of us who wear out the covers of our imitation bibles.
When I did find them the cost was $999-$1326 or so and that
should give you a clue as to the market. Now even WalMart
has hardbound copies in the stores. The market is now being perhaps
directed at the masses rather than to an emphasis on the genuine
leather large print edition.

One additional note is that in other countries all bibles have thumb tabs,
printed by the local bible society. It's strange with the 3column being
printed in China they don't all have thumb tabs. Any bible in most
small counties printed by bible societies, have thumb tabs and
cost about $10.

Hope that helps.

I have a gen. leather standard. I used it to preach with this last Sunday at a nursing home service, it was dimly lit, and lost my place turning from John 4 to Isaiah 55. I am used to my Cambridge KJV 10 pt type. But I know I will get used to it. Also, I have found that many people have an opinion on Dake. When people find out I have a Dake Bible, they share with me that they either really love his notes, or really hate them. Hey Dake was not lukewarm or cold but on fire, so I guess peoples opinions of his notes will either be cold or fire! Also I find that to use his notes along with the old Scofield notes, and Ryrie's as well really help. One thing that I do not agree with is Dakes note on the Secound Coming of our Saviour as being the "thief in the night", that saying is reffering to the rapture of the church.

Hey Nate,

Above you said: "One thing that I do not agree with is Dakes note on the Second Coming of our Saviour as being the "thief in the night", that saying is referring to the rapture of the church."

Interesting.

Would you happen to have a passage of Scripture that would refer to the "Rapture of the Church" as being compared to a thief in the night?
